Where to use QBE Vision Query Builder

Software Developers use QBE Query for building and verifying SQL statements in their source files. With QBE Query's easy-to-use graphical environment, complex SQL-statements can be built in a fast and accurate way, thereby saving time that may otherwise have been spent on correcting syntax errors.

SQL statements can be pasted, or an entire source file may be read, directly into QBE Query's SQL-Window. Selected SQL statements can be executed separately or concurrently, with the resulting data being displayed in its corresponding result set.

It is additionally possible to verify that the database has been updated according to the intentions of the application that is being developed. Furthermore, QBE Query provides functionality for the importing and exporting of both test and production data.

Database Managers and Operators use QBE Query for browsing and updating the database. QBE Query provides powerful functionality for database updating. To avoid updating the database in a way other than that which was intended, a suitably structured result set from a query can be updated and then stored back in the database. Adopting this method gives better control than trying to execute queries that perform complex database updates.

Being able to use the same generic query tool against many different database systems gives many benefits. QBE Query has built-in native database drivers for Oracle, Sybase and SQL Server, in addition to ODBC. This provides the user with a fast and flexible way of accessing the data.

It is possible to have many different database systems open concurrently in QBE Query. This enables the easy moving of data directly from one database system, such as Access, to another. There is no need to use any temporary file storage. The data may even be manipulated before being stored in the other database system.

End users can use QBE Query to extract tabular data from the database. The data can either be extracted by simply executing parameterised predefined queries that have earlier been stored for reuse, or by building ad-hoc queries with QBE Query's easy-to-use graphical environment.

There are many ways in which the result set can be manipulated. It may for example be sorted differently or some of the result set's columns may be re-sequenced or dropped. The result set, or selected parts of it, can easily be printed, exported to files or transferred to other products, such as Microsoft Excel or Word, for further processing. QBE queries can also be executed directly from other products, using QBE Query as a background server.

Application Providers requiring their own own query tool can integrate QBE Query with their applications. They can either use QBE Query under its own brand name or, if they prefer, can re-brand it through VAR agreements, thereby integrating QBE Query more tightly with their own family of applications. When the applications are installed at new customer sites, QBE Query can be used to import system tables into the database.
