Sophisticated Business Systems (SBS) Unveils Microsoft .NET Framework-Based
Product Strategy for Migrating Mainframe Applications
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – November 7, 2005 – Sophisticated Business Systems (SBS), a leading provider of fully automated legacy migration solutions, today announced at the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 launch in San Francisco its open platform strategy using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System and Microsoft SQL Server 2005. This strategy helps companies migrate applications away from proprietary environments to modern, open technologies such as Microsoft .NET in support of an “off-mainframe conversion solution.” This new technology is called DB-Shuttle™ .NET and will automatically migrate mainframe applications and databases to up-to-date languages and database management systems. The commercial release of this technology is planned for the first quarter of 2006.
SBS has integrated Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 into its Microsoft .NET Framework-based solution. Initially, DB-Shuttle .NET will support an automated conversion of Integrated Data Management System (IDMS) Mainframe databases and applications to a multi-tier .NET environment. Future capabilities will include the migration of Information Management System (IMS), Datacom, Adabas and Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM) to the .NET platform. DB-Shuttle .NET will:
· Provide rapid legacy system conversion and deployment to the .NET Framework
· Lower hardware and software costs
· Support increased system performance
· Deliver functionally equivalent applications and databases
· Reduce ongoing development costs
· Support new technology through open data structures and easy-to-support programming languages
· Preserve software and business continuity
· Support investment payback in months not years
· Provide seamlessly integrated applications and Internet functionality
DB-Shuttle .NET assesses and analyzes the mainframe environment and its applications; automatically converts the databases, applications, and languages while assuring the integrity and completeness of the converted data; and completely tunes the new environment for optimal performance. This includes converting older applications to new languages such as Microsoft Visual Basic .NET 2005 and Visual C# 2005. When a migration to the .NET Framework is complete, a client will have functionally equivalent, seamlessly integrated applications and Web capability that provide a greatly reduced cost structure, improved business agility, and new technical capabilities.
“Microsoft is excited that there is now an automated conversion solution to migrate legacy applications and databases from the mainframe to the .NET Framework,” said Nick Abbott, group manager of the .NET Developer Product Marketing Group at Microsoft Corp. “The DB-Shuttle .NET solution will help IT managers cut costs and improve response time by modernizing their legacy applications to a Web-based environment such as the .NET Framework.”
“DB-Shuttle .NET is an important addition to the DB-Shuttle Technology suite of products. SBS already provides powerful automated migration solutions that convert older applications and databases,” states Tom Howard, CTO of SBS. He added, “The business case for .NET Framework legacy migrations has never been more compelling, particularly in a highly competitive global market, where moving to Web-based applications is the bottom line.”
